Bar ends are very intuitive. Lifting lever lifts chain . Most people catch on
quickly. FTP and brake shifters offer no feedback.

I never used friction shifting before, but I am getting used to it now
after a month of riding my new Sam. N
I like the thumb shifters idea, but how about stem shifters?

Paul/VO/IRD thumb mounts would be another way to go. Nice that you can

I agree with Jim about the adjustment issue. If dialing in index shifting
isn't something you've worked with, I'd recommend having your LBS go over
the bike. I've had grip-shifters on several bikes - including my current
RANS recumbent - and I've never had the problem you're describing.
