I promised I would report on the Ostrich F516 bag when it arrived. It was
back-ordered, since I wanted a black one, but it came today, and it's all
that I hoped for. Photos to be found here:

Yeah, but not in a *d'a *way. It's a little on the small side, but all
that I need for 90% of the riding I do.

Am resigned to contracting one of our domestic bag makers given no bites on a
used front bag. Let me know if you have one for sale, please. I'm not
restricted to Berthoud, I just happen to prefer their stock grey fabric.
Thanks!

We'll soon see what that Ostrich is like; I'm told the order has been
processed, which means I should have it late next week.

The Loyal guy, Phil Woosley, is one of the partners at Missing Link Bike
Collective, which I think is now the oldest LBS in Berkeley CA. Loyal (AKA
Phil) is the OEM for Bruce Gordon's bags.

Good point. I've purchased items from SJS and other British (and Chinese)
sources in the past without any notice, but this will be the first time
from Japan. We'll see.

Well, if you don't mind the points I raised on the Oripington--which you
may well not mind, they're idiosyncratic--it's a great bag at a great
price. And unlike everything else, comes in your choice of colors, now
including bright red.

I have a bag that is a few days old, if you're interested let me know and
I'll figure out the price.

that Ostrich bag is designed to be mounted to your handlebars with a Nitto
F15 U shaped mount. I'm not sure how it would do mounted on an M12 ( ie:
is there a base stiffener or the suitablity to use a decaleur) and there
are not back pockets which I find extremely useful for
Loyal Bags is a great option. He can custom make the bag to size. Very
traditional styling. Price is competitive.

Good points all. For me, it's easy to overcome the stiffener issue, if one
is lacking, as well as the decaleur integration, and as I pointed out
above, I didn't find the pockets all that useful. If it's pocketses you

Thought my chances were best posting for a used Berthoud bag but if having to
buy new, would much prefer Loyal or Ruth Works over a new Frenchy front bag.
That said, I remain open to what fellow RBWers have to sell or swap.
