I would second everything Garth wrote. I have had great success with Mavic
rims over the years. I also have a set of daVinci 26 rims (see davinci
designs) on our tandem. The V shape is very strong and these wheels have
held up amazingly well under the 400+ lbs of weight on a touring tandem.
The Sun and Mavic rims are both great - the used cyclocross tubular set I
got from Patrick attests to that (and the American Classic hubs are
amazing). My buddy's Dahon came with a set of Kinlin 23mm rims on American
Classic wide flange hubs - I think this is the nicest wheelset I've ever

My Atlantis has Mavic A719 rims with nearly 30k miles on them. Still round
true after 6+ years of general riding, loaded touring and off-road
bashing. Rear hub is the Shimano Deore XT cassette that came on the bike
10 years ago. I service it every year or 2. I'm in southern California so
I think Sun CR-18 are great rims. I have the 700C versions and can find no
fault with them.
