If you have downtube shifter bosses on the frame you can get Shimano cable adjusters to fit over them, these are used with STI shifters. VO also sells some Dajia ones (don't look as nice as Shimano) for $10. If you don't have shifter bosses, you can as Rene has said install inline adjusters

Those rear derailers, and even the 9 speed XT 772 no longer have the barrel adjuster since the mountain shifters have them. When using bar end shifters, you can insert some 3rd party cable barrel adjusters in the housing between the handlebar and the down tube mounts, but if you're running

Thanks, Bill. Jon Dukeman had a similar suggestion. It looks pretty close and sounds smooth. I think I'll ride it a while until I can get it to a shop to align it properly. Now I know tool to ask if they have for a precision alignment. Jim, I didn't realize it didn't have a barrel adjuster

I busted a very nice Microshift road rd on the Fargo when I caught a stick in the wheel. The cage shattered, the rd hangar bent inward at 90*, jamming against the small cog, but strangely, no spoke broke. LBS fixed it fine. I felt the wheel skid, and immediately (~.00443 second) slammed on the

Grant's incident was different than mine. I had noticed a clicking noise recently, particulary during hard pedal strokes. Turned out that a link of the chain was coming loose and when it broke open, it hooked the derailleur and twisted it up nicely. Lesson learned... check the chain more

I found Grant's incident interesting because I did the same thing - not enough chain for big-big combo, and it locked me up. My case was 54-34 combo on '72 Schwinn Sports Tourer, which I tried to hit after flying fast down a valley and up the other side, fogetting to drop to the 30 ring. In my

I too use the M772 XT rear derailer that Riv sells on my Sam and it's been fantastic. It survived a 3-mile section of mud last year in the Dirty Kanza when ever other rider was snapping rear derailers. That being said, my Roadeo demo from Riv oddly enough has the cheapo Claris mid-cage rear
