One more reason to do this is so that, if you use a screw-on hose, as with
the Lezyene pumps, you don't unscrew the core when removing the hose, after
spending all those joules in getting your tire to the right pressure. Yes,
I've done that too.

Had a flat. Changed tube. Couldnt find the cause...(funny, valve core seems
loose)...installed new tube...went flat over night...pumped up and
rode...flatter again that night before ride home...spit on pinched together
index and thumb and applied to valve core...slimy bubbles erupted from
core
