Nevermind Erich, I deleted the old version completely
along with DCOM and then installed the new version. I
downloaded the old version again and then installed
the new version on top of it so now I have background
server again. I am not sure if this is the right way
but its working fine again.

the problem happens with RAndFriends because the (D)COM installer
is included with RAndFriends. Therefore Thomas' solution will
