I've used the wattnode with APRS' wind data logger to provide data
logging for 20 K Jacobs and 10K bergey turbines, as there has never been
real time data logging equipment for either of their inverters.

Wayne,
As you suggested, because this is a new service, a PV service disconnect is
required. The question of whether a second disconnect is required, a new
disconnect for the main service, is a Code issue, as far as I can tell. It
is also an interpretation, but I¹ll get to that later.
It just so

William, In my case the full monitoring system was installed on a IG5000
three+ years ago, we also included the large display. All systems are
functioning very well. I just wish the software allowed for a few more bells

Hello Wayne,
Correct me if I am misunderstanding you. You have had to install an AC disco
between the inverter and the service panel backfeed breaker. Now you have to
install another AC disco between the first AC disco and the service panel. Huh?

I would opt for "sort of new".

the Lightning and Transients research Institute has been closed, I am sorry to
say. The paper is valuable and reassuring, if the module frames are properly
grounded, they act as a shield and will protect the PV source and output
circuits if they are shielded via conduit or coaxial
I hope I can help. If he installs ahead of the meter (line side install) he is

A few years ago, Bill Brooks or another wrench specified 5 ohms or less when
measured with a special meter but I can't recall the meter. No problem if
the ground is saturated, but lightning in the southwest US often comes in
the storm front before the soaking rain.

I agree. A true line-side connection is a new service and requires a circuit
breaker and disconnect and revenue meter. I guess a better description for
what we've been talking about is a load-side tap that is between the
existing revenue meter and the distribution service panel main circuit

If the lightning pulse is 10,000 amps and I want to limit it to 1000 volts I

This is a feed-in tariff program, not a net-metered program. So as long as
the inverter output circuit is metered, no one is giving away any PV
generated electricity. In fact, PV-generated energy is bought at $0.32/kWh:
