Carl,
Macs have always worked on mod-sine, meaning the SW- and SW+-series
Trace/Xantrex, the only genuine mod-sine inverters I know of.
On mod-square wave, like DRs and Us, older Macs were incompatible
('90s and earlier) but more recent ones have generally worked O
No problems here with a Xantrex DR and MacBook charging from it. Can't
help you regarding Mac desktops, never tried them on mod sine.

I've got 2 enphase AC coupled to my outback offgrid system, and while I can't
compare them to a standard grid system, I can say they don't come on before my
MX-60 controllers do.
