I use DeWalt tools, mostly because that is what I ended up with. But they
have been working totally fine. No complaints here in upstate NY. I do
generally bring them in overnight in the winter.
Cheers,

I use Delwalt only because they still make a couple power/battery tools in the
USA. And it’s the only reason I buy them.

We use all Makita 18V tools and we try to bring them into the shop
overnight to charge them.
That said… several often get left in the vans overnight, at various st

What lithium battery powered tool brand that has the best performance in
freezing weather? My 10 year old+ Makita tool set isn't nearly as powerful as
some newer tools.
I live in far northern MN (it was -32F this morning) my shop is well insulated
but I only heat when I working in there (wood heat). It was 22F in the shop
this morning. My batteries give the “cold temp” light when I try charge them
even when as warm as 20F. So I need to bring my batteries in at

What is the best brand for cold weather operation?
We've sacrificed a small-medium ice chest to be the battery box for our
tool batteries. affixed to the side of the ice chest is a small 7
watt reptile heat pad with the cord sneaking out the lid and plugged in
overnight. You don't want the pad on the bottom it'll actually get the

Wow, spot on Alex. It's breath of fresh air to hear correct info about Li
batteries. Far too much misinformation has flooded the web.
Just adding a note about temperature. LFP type batteries can be discharged with
cell temperatures down to -5°F and will not be harmed if exposed in storage to

Generally, storage or use at cold temperatures shouldn't be an issue,
as long as the battery can still deliver enough power to operate the
tool effectively.
Charging though...at cold temperatures, ion mobility goes down. If
the battery is charged too fast, the lithium ions can't make it into

Hey All,
For those of us that live & work in freezing winter temps - What is the
overall effect on LI tool batteries stored in a frozen truck overnight,
needs to be used or charged & the battery is -15˚ to 32˚F?
I assume it’s the same as stationary LI batteries, though I have never
seen a war
