[RE-wrenches] question about Xantrex AGS

2012-08-16 Thread Ron @ earthRight Solar
Hi Wrenches, I have a client that has burned up two control boards on an Onan-Cummings 5.5 kw propane generator. The system includes an XW 6048 inverter, XW MPPT c.c., and the Onan generator. System has worked well for several years but recently burned up the control board on the Onan. Client d

Hi ron, Interesting problem. The XW-AGS is a dry contact system so should be no voltage there, and since that "worked" for years, seems unlikely. Only thoughts at this point are. 1. load on genny is too high. 2. generator is connected to the Grid input and it trying to sell back. 3. any new

Hi Jay, Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not big on generators or on Xantrex so may be missing something. It's possible the load on the generator is too high, it's a young family and use lots of power. There is no grid so I'm guessing you mean connected to the wrong input on the XW? So if they c

That's interesting. About 10 years ago I went through about 6 control boards on an Onan Quiet Diesel over a few years with a Dual SW5548 system that employed AGS. Eventually the Onan became a backup and was started manually. It did not last much longer mechanically, but I don't recall any additi

Ron, If your client wants to keep the Onan, Flight Systems can rebuild the board for a small fee. I have used them for other generator controllers and they are very reasonable. On Thu, Aug 16, 2012 at 6:30 PM, Ron @ earthRight Solar < solarea...@solareagle.com> wrote: > Hi Wrenches, > > I have a

Hi Ron, Its a real bitch to walk someone through the XW control panel. But I'm guessing that they added something recently , say an Air conditioner? Default settings are 60 amps, which would put the genny under a world of hurt. Another thought. Is the generator in a shed or open? ie good airf

Can they rebuild the boards that are fully encapsulated in clear gel? I was under the impression that these were not serviceable. Jason Szumlanski Fafco Solar On Thu, Aug 16, 2012 at 8:57 PM, Chris Mason wrote: > Ron, > If your client wants to keep the Onan, Flight Systems can rebuild the > boa

I would contact them directly, they probably build replacements. On Fri, Aug 17, 2012 at 9:59 AM, Jason Szumlanski wrote: > Can they rebuild the boards that are fully encapsulated in clear gel? I > was under the impression that these were not serviceable. > > Jason Szumlanski > Fafco Solar > > >
