I am a newbie too. But, since no one asnwered this question, I would give

burn them?

The same thing happened to me.
I believe the problem is that RH installer couldn't tell the hda1 is an NTFS
partition. I would believe that it is a bug in the installer.
Just try to back up your configuration files and reinstall 6.1, keep your home
and usr/local partion. This will solve the prob

I got a problem with XWindows.
After I installed JDK for Linux on my Red Hat 6.0, the Xwindows couldn't
start.
