Well your running a pre-release kernel, that never helps. Get 2.0.34.
Also what hardware do you have?

Once again, I'm posting to the list to let everyone know of the changes
going on at your friendly RedHat Linux User's FAQ Mirror. In case you
haven't visited lately, there's been a lot of changes going on at the

Probably what's happening is that you don't have the lp module loaded (you
didn't compile it into the kernel directly). To check, do a:
lsmod
and look for: lp
if not, as root, do a "insmod lp"
Not sure what the correct entry in /etc/conf.modules should

2) MON: http://consult.ml.org/~trockij/mon/
MON is IMHO better.
For a SNMP Network monitoring tool check out TkIned/Scotty which there are
RPM's available for in contrib.

A few ways I can think of.
- - run 'dmesg | more' see if there's any serial port inializing statments
- - cat /proc/ioports look for the lines:

03f8-03ff : serial(auto)

Thanks to a generous contribution I'm the proud possesor of almost 100

AFAIK no. Also from personal experiance, only use NIS+ if you have a
really LARGE installation (many computers over many sites). The admin
headache of NIS+ is gigantic. So bad that even Sun Microsystems the
inventors of NIS+ don't even use it!
