Is this really safe? For beginners especially I would say to stick with the updates
that up2date grabs or that you DL from the Red Hat updates ftp server.

You can't (shouldn't) do it that way.
Put all your update files into /var/spool/up2date
This is the way I do the updates manually. Maybe someone else has a better way but
this has worked for me for several years.

Here are the docs to the manual install of the plugin. I have used the ns610 library
with Mozilla in the past.
I have been having some problems getting it to work with mozilla 1.4 though but I have
not spent too much time on it yet.
Christy,
Can you please post your /etc/ntp.conf from your time server and one of the clients.

When I see unusual disk activity, I just run top. Then I sort by CPU usage

Mostly I have seen this as updatedb running.

Try X Manager at www.download.com. This should get you started. You will
pull up a xterm window and you can launch x apps from there.

If you are going to a switch, you MUST force the NIC to 100Mbps and Full
duplex. Otherwise the switch can get confused. Make sure also that the
switch is set to 100Mbps and Full duplex.
If that doesn't help you let me know.

I have a Compaq Armada 1130T laptop that I am trying to setup with Linux
7.0.
It does not have an internal CDROM drive. I do have an Panasonic external
CD attached via a pcmcia card.
When I boot from the install floppy and start setup, it prompts me for a
driver disk.
Is it possible to create
ports, etc.

I believe that Dell has Notebooks that come with Linux pre-installed.
There service is pretty good but sometimes delivery on notebooks is slow.
Good luck.

I am using Red Har 7.0.
When working at the command line (without X) I can turn off screen blanking
by doing a
setterm -blank off
I have two questions.
Does the setterm option "stick" upon rebooting?
Can I turn off screen blanking when using Gnome?
Thanks for your help.
