Comment this out to allow root to login from a telnet session.
I don't know if there is an equivalent file to /etc/default/login with
Linux . . . anyhow, the security issues aside, that is how you allow root
to login remotely on Sun Solaris 2.5.1 and 2.6.

Thanks, Paul . . . I couldn't tell because rpcinfo -p wouldn't run,
either. I found out what the problem was, though. My son, who is 14, is
an NT guru of sorts. He convinced me to te
-install RH unless I have to. There has to be some
configuration file that enabling the PPP changed, but I can't fine it.
Any
suggestions would be appreciated.

Logged on as root, just type:
shutdown -h now
This will do a clean shutdown and ha

Hi Michael. I think you've got the right idea with the NFS mounts.
First though, your are correct in that the IP of the NT system is 10.0.0.1
(it's an isolated network, so it doesn't matter.) I can ping, FTP, telnet,
etc. between the NT and Linux systems so the network connectivity is OK.

I use Samba instead of NFS mounts. I agree Samba is easier, but for
educational purposes, I need to determine if I can get NFS mounts to
work using MOUNTD. Also, I posted the request over the long weekend when

Anyone have any thoughts on this one? It's a bit long winded,
but I want to give all the details so anyone who has seen this before
may pick up on what I've missed.
I'm trying to get Linux (RH 5.0) to export a directory to an NT
or 95 system. I've done this hundreds of times at work

I know there probably isn't a yes/no answer to this question and I
won't really know until I try it. Realizing this, I would like the
opinions of the Linux gurus. Are there any known incompatibilities with
the following system I plan to load RH Linux 5.0 on:
266 Mhz Pentium CPU
Asus P2L97
