Serial port connection dump / MP3 mobile player

Hi! Is there a way I could dump all the information that is coming to a serial port into a file, so after that I could rearange it? And where I should modify the settings for the port? (baud rate, parity, etc...) Also is there any one who built a car mp3-player with a LCD display and keypad?
