Hi,
error message from xinetd - "Bad line received from identity server"
New to the list (and searched for this error to see if anyone had a
explanation, but couldn't see any). Anyone know what is the problem?
The "bad line" is coming from my own box and is being reported on another
box that
It could be a faulty NIC but I have two installed on the machine and they
both do the samething. As for the subnet, there both correct Class C's. I
did a ping this time and got a response but the funny thing is each ping it
loses 1 ms for time on each ping. I made a copy and is listed below.

the Linux box(192.168.0.4) is then able to get a ping response from the
windoze machine(192.168.0.9). What gives? I don't understand how it can just

After not using the network for an hour or so I can't get connected again.
In the morning I will be telneting into the computer and later in the day
after not using it I can't get in. I will try and ping the address with no
luck. I was thinking maybe the computer is going into a sleep mode but I c
I got the DNS HowTo and am going thru just like it says. I'm just trying to
get the nslookup to find itself(127.0.0.1) which is the computer I'm going
to setup the DNS on. Anyways, first thing I've done is gone into the
named.conf file and have 1 entry

Yep, that was it. I didn't have an entry in the nameserver just had the
domain in the resolv.conf file.

where in the configuration files is it getting 0.0.0.0 for the address?

That did it. It was the good o'l Windoze telnet program that was ruining it.

PS-Jason thanks for your idea but my eyes would be killing me after a couple

But when I go onto the local computer and type that I get "linux"? You
guys/gals are probably correct, I'm running RH so it's probably Vim instead

I telnet into my box and vi into a file I try and push the arrow down key
and it pops a "B" character on the screen. But when I try to do the same

and gateway? If there are other machines on the same subnet as you, can you

When I try and change my IP address on my NIC. It stops working. Yes, I
reboot and its says it boots up correctly but when I try and ping something

OK, this is a stupid question but I got to ask. Is the kernel source only
packaged in the RPM's? I read the How-to configure the kernel and it keeps
telling me to go find the linux-x.y.z.tar.gz file but I can't find it
anywhere on the disk or on the ftp site. I can only find the

I was just recompiling a new kernel (2.2.15) and found that there are a few
