I changed my /root directory to 755 and I didn't get any error
messages from cron.daily, so it is now fixed. Thanks for the advice.

Everyday, I get email (for root) after it's cron.daily job, here
it is:
Subject: Cron run-parts /etc/cron.daily

I get that several times when I telnet to certain accounts at college. If
you have an external modem, you would notice that your computer keeps
sending packets for a response and there is no response for a long time.
I don't know the true explanation for this hang up, I'm not a network
expert but
I have Applixware (not free) that is a fine program that can
import AND export Excel docs along with MS-word and some other file
formats. I don't know if that's what you are looking for though.

I have RH 4.2. I wrote a program that uses a do-while loop (in
C )and compiled it on a Sun system and the loops worked. I then copied
that code and compiled it "gcc" on my system and the loop doesn't work. I
know that the reason may solely be that I'm using libc instead of glibc.

I had slight problems awhile back with sending mail. It would
never leave my system therefore the "recipient" never got his/her mail.
FIRST, try a 'mailq' about 30 seconds after you send the mail. If it is
still there, then that could be either an unfamiliar address or an address

I have an Ethernet connection here at Purdue. Before that, I used
a U.S. Robotics external modem which had LED's that graphically showed
what's going on with the connection. Is there a program that can show the
connection stats with an Ethernet connection? If not, what port could I

I think it is rather a waste of energy chastising the advertising ability
of Red Hat than their production ability. If you think the advertising
stinks, then how did "you" find out about Red Hat? Apparently there was
some outreach from RH.
