Well I found something that may help, I though I would add it to this list.
The problems where solved with the kernel boot parameter: 'idebus=66'.
I started the redhat installation with:
'expert text linux idebus=66', and later in the installation phase I added
'idebus=66' as the boot

the command host it shows hostname but when give the command domainname it

At work we use a number of Zyxel Prestige 100I/H ISDN routers for dialin access.
The Zyxel will automaticaly make an Internet connection the moment there is any
traffic going in that direction totaly independt of the OS you run on the PC's as

try radius, it'll do it. better download cistron-radius, it's customizable for your requirements. you can also get some insight from regulus and it could also be your solution.

Two things...
First, please turn off html when sending mail to the list. You will get a
much more favorable response.
Second, look into radius. It will do everything you need and more.
