To start with, I have nothing to do with development of the Mwave modem
driver for Linux.
But the driver that you downloaded was developed for the last IBM
ThinkPad's produced that had the Mwave modem integrated chip (ThinkPad
600 and 770 series) using the MDSP3780.

Sorry, what you have isn't a modem. It's only a DSP (digital
signal processor) chip. The modem and sound card are software
in the drivers.
There are very few plans to write modem software to run these
beasts on Linux. It's really hard and they aren't that brilliant
when you've done. I recommend

I got a used modem here which I beleive it is Mwave
sound/modem (ACP) MDSP2780 ; but I had no luck with
the driver in IBM page. I thought this driver may only
be used in the IBM Thinkpad machine not others, as I
plug my modem to the different machine. But the thing
is the DOS/WIN driver
