Go with Icecast. . .We use it every day where I work for music in the office. We have
four different playlists offered for the different types of music, and usually use
XMMS to listen in. The server is great and you can get Livecast to send out broadcast

I've been playing with Icecast (www.icecast.org) the last week or so on a RH
7.0 platform, using WinAmp as a client on a 'doze box. I'm no expert
(definitely not with linux) but I reckon the inbuilt on-demand static
streaming works fairly well, and I even got a pretty decent radio-style
playlist
depending on the way you want to do it you could look at darwin streaming
server from apple that works on linux quite well. You could stream mp3
format.
