Jimmy, as I read what you're saying, you're putting the password you
entered in at the "localhost login: " prompt. If that's the case, you
_really_ need to read and follow whatever book/etc came with the cdrom
you installed from. What you probably created is the "root" account,

Login will be root
password will be whatever you entered when installing , case sensitive

Did you really mean that you installed 5.1? Probably should strongly
consider upgrading to 6.1 or wait a bit and go straight to 6.2.
Anyway,
Enter root as login name then you should enter the password that you
gave the installation program. Remember you are now on a multi-user
operating system
At the prompt enter your userid. You will then
be prompted for a password.

Here you type the user name : in this case it has to be "root"
Then , you type the password that this user.

You must have forgotten your passwords. Reboot and at the LILO prompt, type
"linux single".
Once you get a shell prompt (bash#), type "passwd". Reset your root
password

Your login is 'root', which is the superuser.
Small suggestion - read some documentation before you go any further. If you
don't know how to log in as root then you don't know aht damage you can do
(yet).

Hello
Suggestion to your problem
1) Start up as single user mode and try to fix the problem
2) A quicker solution would be to blow away RedHat 5.2 and reinstall it again.

You need to specify a login of root, and a password of whatever you set it
to.
i.,e.
localhost login: root
Password: **

I just finished installing Red Hat 5.1.
The computer has rebooted and it is asking for
"localhost login:".
In the installation process, earlier it asked me for
a login and password. I tried using the password at
the "localhost login:" prompt, but the system wants
another password.
