Well, the tubes in themselves don't discourage me, but if you
said it would be one spurious, drifty, cantankerous dog to operate,
then that would discourage me.
The spurious part can happen
In my opinion, the Moxy will not enough shielding for repeater
use ... nor will the PA deck have have enough heat sink for
adequate cooling.

While we're on the subject of ancient Motorola stuff... I
just acquired remains of something which I am trying to
ID. It is or was a UHF station or repeater. I believe
these are the transmitter and receiver numbers:

The stock squelch circuit in a Moxy is terrible for repeater use. These
units would not be a good choice for repeater service. There are many
other surplus comercial rigs out there that would be a much better

I wanted to say Thanks to all for answering my questions about the Kenwood
TKR-750 K2 repeater.
The repeater is now installed in its final location and seems to be

We used to joke at the shop that someone at
the factory would start removing parts from
a real radio... when the radio quit working
they'd put
Go for it. I built my first repeater using moxys. It worked well and sounded
good.
It's a great learning experience. Get in there and tinker around and figure
stuff out. That's what ameatur radio is all about.

I would have to agree with Tim. I'm using a Maxar 80 which is very
similar to the moxy for the receiver on our clubs 440 repeater. The
main disadvantage to these radio they have no shielding because the
cases are plastic, so this can sometime stray RF floating around inside
the rack to
