Re: Fluke Multi-Meters
To quote a good friend Geoff...
"If it's a good meter it must be a Fluke."
I still have a working Fluke 77 and it's a great meter. But we also
have the 85, 87 & 179 series meters in use. Actually I have a Fluke
SM-77 Meter by Heathkit... where Heath relabeled the 77 a
I have a Fluke 70 that I realy like. Another good brand to look into
is Amprobe. I have a very nice setup from them. It isn't
autorangeing but it has a high voltage probe, ac amp clamp and ac
leekage detector. I don't rember the model number but I used it on a
daliy basis as my bench meter
The only thing wrong with a Fluke Meter is the cost of the
replacement internal current percision fuses when you blow
one (or both) by mistake.
Not a question of if... just a quesiton of when.
But it's a fair trade to blow the current fuse vs fixing the
meter as in days of old... Many of yo
I can get the last tenth of a milivolt out of a MASTR II receiver
with a my Fluke can you say that for the Simpson 260? Plus, you have
to treat the Simpson like egg shells. DOnt get me wrong I used a
Simpson for many years until I got used to using a FLUKE DVM for
tuning. You have to go slowly

I checked the site and they wanted $7.16 for the meter. I agree that having
a sacrificial meter around is good. I have been left holding just a pair of
leads before while watching the smoke gently rise proving that hot air is

I've been at some very high RF level sites and the old Simpson 260 never seems
to be overloaded. The Fluke digital can do some strange things with RF
floating around.

I had a Simpson 260, My Dad actually worked at the plant that made them back in the day.
I like that it will do every thing except Ohms and continuity with a dead battery, something the Fluke doesn't like too much.
Worked fine at one of the sites until a piece of hardline connecting
the antenna
