Glad to hear you have good success with a 40 watt radio turned down to
8 watts. There was some discussion on here some time ago that Motorola
radios become unstable when turned down with which I disagree.
I have had good success turning GM300s down to save finals for those
long winded QSOs.
We have a 40watt GM300 driving a 100watt Henry with 8watts for over a year without failure. Pretty good setup. Andy KC2GOW

The Alinco isnt much good as a mobile rig let alone a repeater! Strive
for some surplus commercial gear,look for something with a 100% duty
cycle or at least something better than a mobile. You can build up a GE
MastrII or Micor for about the same money as ONE mobile rig these days

I've read some of the posts about using alinco radios as ham repeaters.
Unfortunately I have one pair to "play" with at the moment. It seems ok
for now in the office, but not sure how durable it is up at the site.
I have a few other models of radio that I could use to build ham
repeaters.
