Glad to hear you have good success with a 40 watt radio turned down to 8 watts.  There was some discussion on here some time ago that Motorola radios become unstable when turned down with which I disagree. I have had good success turning GM300s down to save finals for those long winded QSOs.

The Alinco isnt much good as a mobile rig let alone a repeater! Strive for some surplus commercial gear,look for something with a 100% duty cycle or at least something better than a mobile. You can build up a GE MastrII or Micor for about the same money as ONE mobile rig these days and have the

Hi.. I've read some of the posts about using alinco radios as ham repeaters. Unfortunately I have one pair to "play" with at the moment. It seems ok for now in the office, but not sure how durable it is up at the site. I have a few other models of radio that I could use to build ham repeaters.
