Of course someone had to bring this up. I used to mess around with tags
until I got dbpoweramp. It searches AMG, GD3, SontaDB, Musicbrainz &
freedb and if you like custom tags, set the way you want your tags and
forget it. The program does them on the fly plus offers the ability to
edit tags dire

volume differences from track to track.
All replay gain does is set the volume level for each track so you
don't have to, and no it doesn't ignore some of the digital stream to
do that.

If you thinks its slower than it should be I would pop over to
dbpoweramp.com and check the forums. Likely the answer is there
already or you can get Spoon to give you a hand to get it fixed up.

All that and rev 14 gives you access to the meta data sites for as long
as you own it, no more yearly fees for access. There is also a new
online art search feature which works very well.

All that and I need a converter to change format for my iPod - I would

is compromised anyway so compressed

In my case I found it well worth my time to go back and rerip 400+
disks. No errors, nice FLAC tags, artwork, and good clean rips. With
a good quality CD/DVD reader it takes less time than you think to
re-rip.

+1 for db-Poweramp getting it right often enough. Their approach to

listen to the music...

I have read here in the forum that foobar can do on the fly conversion
and that can be used in place of a second library for syncing portable
devices with a compressed format but I have never used foobar.

And another vote for DBPoweramp - with the AMG (All Media Guide) plugin
it does decent tags and adds artwork when you rip as well.

Thanks for the link (and previous posts about dbPoweramp) - I have a
bunch of import/rare stuff that required scanning to get artwork for
iTunes.
The best part is listening and tagging for the last couple hours
without the remote or volume adjustment!
