I've been using Eac for ages to rip my music collection to flac, works
ok but had a go on dbpoweramp and I really like it. So might stick with
that, is it a wise choice to go with dbpoweramp, it does seem easier to
use.
I do have a question about dbpoweramp what is the best way to rip to
flac? I
For most rips dBpoweramp should be faster than EAC. That's because dBpa
can be set to do one pass, then check the results against AccurateRip,
and if AccurateRip matches, just stop there. It only has to do a 2nd or
subsequent pass if the CD isn't in the AccurateRip database, or if your
rip doesn't
it may be easier, but probably isnt as accurate.

Care to elaborate on that little comment? I mean, if any ripper rips a
CD and the CRC checksum _exactly_ matches what 5, 10, or 50 other users
have done, why would you think it's less accurate?

It's equally accurate.

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it
ain't what you'd call minimal...

How do I set it up so that it compares my rip to that on the ar database
and only make an ultra secure pass it it doesn't match?

Db works great, I agree it is "easier" than EAC. Not sure on what basis
poster wrote that it is less accurate. Never heard any claim like that
before.
There are some decent help files at the dbpoweramp site. I think you
can download it also. There is also the dbpoweramp forum, where you get
answe
my understanding is that for either app you don't need to do a secure
rip if the AR value comes back as a match. so, most of the time do
fast or burst rips, and only resort to secure if the AR is off.

That's right. As far as I know that contingency of re-ripping when
AccurateRip comes back without a good match cannot be automated in EAC
the way it is in dBpa, but maybe it is possible with the latest EAC.
And even if it isn't, it can still be done manually as you suggest.

EAC is easy to use for me. I have it as an autostart application so to
rip a CD I place it in the tray, wait for the disc to be recognised and
press MP3 to rip to FLAC. I cannot see how it could be easier short of
getting a multi CD transport.

I like EAC, too, and to be honest I don't know what features have been

Eac is an excellent program but anyone that says it's better than
dbpoweramp is kidding themselves. Eac is good if you don't want to pay
for the added features that dbpoweramp gives you. Just the added
metadata is worth the price in my opinion. The dual core usage plus all
the added features pay

yes, i shouldnt have posted that without being fully knowledgeable.
using "probably" wasnt a strong enough disclaimer
I am also a Eac to dbPowerAmp convert.
Some things I do with dbPA that I couldn't (easily) do with Eac:
Before ripping I click on "Review Metadata" and manually fix if needed
(rare). The user interface for this is really great.
Apply the following effects on the tracks during the rip process (

R14 of dBpoweramp also comes up with a
Each to his own but EAC could not be simpler for me. If I needs to alter
tags I use MP3Tag.

I used EAC for awhile before switching to dbPA. For me, the main
advantages are 1) it's faster, and 2) multiple encodings. I rip
everything to FLAC for my main in-house SB library, but keep a
duplicate library in MP3 format, for quick-n-easy copying to portable
players. Using EAC involved two step
