Not sure which thing did it but, IT WORKS! Thanks for the help.

I've done a dump of the database and taken a look at the actual top of
the hour as created in the event creator and scheduled by the log
manager when the logs from Selector are imported and this is what I
see as the string for the top of each hour:

Check permissions and ownership on the files and the file directory. I think
they should all be owned user and group "nobody" and "nogroup".
If you do an ls -l in the directory you should see that. You'll also see the
permissions. The permissions for my sound files are set to "-rw-r--r--".

yes we hear the audio, and no i can't play anything in RDlibrary, just the

Ok the correct path is /home/kres/Music and i can play carts from the "sound
panel" screen but still not working from the log, the start/stop squares on
the left are now green again and it looks like it is thinking about playing
a cut but past that no indication that anything is playing.

Right you are about the CAPS. I was copying the file directory he gave in
his original message which has a cap "H" in home. The subsequent message had
the more common lower case directory.

Ah. That's a different story entirely. Note that /home/kres/Music is not
the same place as /Home/KRES/Music; Linux file and path names are case

Note the non-capital "h" in home. /home is a different directory that

A quick fix would be to do a symbolic link to make the files show up in
/var/snd too.

My /var/snd is not a mounted filesystem. It is local to the playback
machine. So why would I need to mount it?

you can also use the -bind option to mount "everything" on /var/snd/

Yes all the files in the music folder are nn_nnn.wav, I'll move them to
/var/snd and see if that cures my problem. Thanks

To be honest if they're in there I'd imagine thats where they're meant to
be (it would be strange to have everything copied from /var/snd on a
computing whim). It depends how Rivendell is setup. Check your
/etc/rd.conf file. I only have a Riv 1.7 to hand but its under the [cae]

If the files have been imported into Rivendell, they'll have names of the
form nn_001.wav, where nn is each file
Oddly /var/snd is empty, i found all my carts in /Home/KRES/Music do i need
to move all my wav files from there to /var/snd?

If its red, it can't access the audio. Can you manually navigate to
/var/snd and does it have the right permissions? (usually
user_name:rivendell)
Obviously if /var/snd is a server mount check the server.

I am having trouble with Rivendell not playing back any log, one created by
hand or those generated using RDLOGManager. It just sits there showing all
log items highlighted in red and does not show that any item is currently
playing and there is no audio output heard or indicated on the VU meters.
