I believe this is fixed in Rivendell 3:

If you don't need access to the running rdairplay, why not use ssh -X
instead of vnc?
You can "ssh -X" into a Rivendell machine running rdairplay without
affecting the operator's display at all. From the command line, you can
start any Rivendell application except rdairplay, so it's perfect

Ubuntu was the first goal as it has an lts supported until 2028. Debian is the
next step. The packaging should not be so different. I'll give a try and let
