I have two questions concerning instrument parameters when playing midi.
When I import a midi file to rosegarden, even though I have Qsynth
connected via jack, there is no sound with the default General MIDI
Device, even though I see the meter levels move.

I usually make use of the dssi plugin capability of rosegarden, and
while not all-encompassing, it works.
If you need a preset, you can set up a session with the needed
fluidsynth-dssi plugins loaded, each with it's own soundfont, and then
save it as default session.

Maybe you can save a template file in Rosegarden with your preferred setup?

It's funny I didn't think of that, since I'm the guy who implemented
that feature. I don't think I ever did anything with it myself,
Thanks everyone who offered advice. I've now got it working, by the
fluidsynth -j -l /path/to/general/midi/soundfont/FluidR3_GM.sf2
method and connecting Rosegarden to manually fluidsynth in qjackctl.
