Do you get any error message? The reason for asking is that I use to experience something similar on my Win 2003 with SA Enterprise ver 5.0.1748.
I use to get an error message "Object variable or With block variable not set ( 91)" . In the logs I get the following;

Could it be that you open the service and the app at the
same time and that it was only the app that was check, which then stops when you
logoff?

it happens in both situations. when i'm logged in
directly (via IPKVM) and i have servers alive open everything works fine but as
soon as i log off servers alive stops. i verified it from the debug. strange.

SA can only see a modem if there is a driver installed for it. SA "asks"
the TAPI subsystem of the OS for a list of available modems and then
displays the list.

function. It’s possible to edit some things globally. But not enough or
all… Dows someone know, if it’s planned in newer version to improve
this? It’s very hard to edit hundrets of entries.
