This issue appears to be with visionapp Remote Desktop v1.5 (third party remote
desktop management tool which worked as expected up until today). Everything
works fine with the Windows Remote Desktop client. I should have checked that
first, but everyone

What version of the RDP client are you using?

If your version of RDP was update it is now /ADMIN (well actually a while ago
was updated) so you may not actually be accessing the console session which
would explain no gui.

Do you experience this if you physically access the server? What about if you
use an alternative remote access method (VNC or LogMeIn)?
