Do not bother guys, I've got it working. The solution was kerberos
(http://au1.samba.org/samba/devel/docs/html/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html#ads-member)
Any ideas on what would cause the /dev/null device to become corrupted,
and become set to a user's home directory?
This is on a system in which I'm used tdbsam, and adding machine accounts
through the unix command rather than smb.conf scripts.

All,
I am trying to get two working Samba servers (now on V 3.0.0) to work
together. They are in two different subnets and connected by an IPSEC tunnel
across the net (FreeSWAN). I am trying to get them to work together across
subnets, but having some problems. I think it has to do with the source

Besides, it can not work at all. The workgroup name and the netbios name
(machine name) are the same.
I strongly recommend that you read the Samba-HOWTO-Collection.pdf
You can obtain it from:

well...I downloaded the tarball containing samba 3 but I got an error

smbpasswd -m -a gerard will create a machine account called gerard$
the $ means this is a machine
smbpasswd -a gerard will create a user gerard in your smbpasswd file
for using this passwd feature a system user has to be created before
i.e. useradd -a gerard
you can do this by using new smb.conf p

Hi everybody,
Shortly, I want my Active Directory users to be able to use Linux samba
file server.
The network is: Win XP and w2k clients, an AD server (w2k) and Linux samba

The services on Linux box (imap, ftp, ssh) are configured to use pam_ldap
and nss_ldap, so 'get
Currently we are replacing some of our W2K-servers by Samba (2.2.8 /
RedHat 9.0).
On one of our shares which is accessible by multiple users at the same
time we put some *.dot (=Microsoft Word) macro's.
However we are experiencing some annoying problems with theses
*.dot-files. When a particular
