I am trying to get samba 3.0 working on a laptop. So far I can see the
laptop and the shared directories from my windows 2000 box. I can open and
copy files from the laptop. But I cannot save or drag files to the shared
laptop folder.
I get a message that says something like this:

I've run into difficulty getting Quicken 2001 and Quicken 2003 backup to

You really need Samba
When using port 445 (that means - without NetBIOS) you must have a wellfunctioning DNS server. Hostnames will be resolved via DNS. WINS is like DNS for NetBIOS names.
