You probably don't want to as it would involve updating the clients to this Samba server to send passwords over in plain text. Samba / Linux / Unix do not have password encryption which matches MS
password encryption thus the Linux/Unix password goes in /etc/shaddow and the Samba one goes in smbpa

this??? I'm not completely averse to ripping out sun's nss library, but

I found a note about people messing with machine SID's and causing this error, so I
dropped the machine line from passwd and smbpasswd, reloaded the box, and all is back
to normal.
Since I had already reloaded, and I am guessing SID's are randomly generated thus I

I have a sparc solaris 8 server running samba 2.2.11 (which i complied with
winbind).
The server has been running for years and has about 20 local users setup
using local files for openssh and rexec logins, and
I'm using samba with winbind on solaris 8 to use MS active directory for
user accounts.
Is there any way to force the UID from active directory to be mapped or
converted to a different UID?
