If it's just on Win XP and Win2k works fine, I swear it's an WinS problem!
Tail your logfiles of the iptables and see what your workstation isn't allowed
to do...
Check out the wins support in smb.conf for this problem.

Wow, you are using your samba-server as internet-gateway and firewall???
Uffhh...
Ok, I don't have this configuration, but in my firewall-script I have
FIRST: transparent redirecting and
SECOND: masquarading
The DROP-Rule you should put in last.
I configured my firewall with the excellent tool
RTFM or maybe this helps:

I got the following configuration on the pdc:

Did you apply the SIGN-OR-SEAL-Patch for the registry?

I don't know what kind of programm you're running, but I had nearly the
problem. I solved it by turning of the oplocks for this share.
Try in the share:
[C]
comment = C On Doveserver
path = /mnt/samba
public = yes
writable = yes
create mask = 0775
Why u don't go here?

OK, seems that it has been just one lucky time and we start again.
I have configured a PDC and two BDCs with the same smb.conf except the
interface-options of course.
BUT here's the nmblookup -SL output

Hi @ all,
I have two samba-servers running perfectly!
Now I configured a third machine which provides some backups. Since I brought
it up in the network the windows client won't execute the netlogon-scripts...
When I turn off samba-services on the backup-machine it works again.

Hi again,
I tried all you said, but now I found the problem, I think.
It has nothing to do with wins or not. My dns works very good and is
definetly not missconfigured. But when I change in smb.conf security =
"domain" to "user", as described in the how-to's, the windows xp

Hi,
I upgraded first to samba rc 4 and now to the newest CVS Version, because
all my Windows XP Professional Clients cannot browse the network neigborhood

What have I done wrong???
I have installed the Registry-Keys and all are domainmembers.

You can do this
Hi,
the best way, I think, is to use LDAP for authenticating. So you've one
server, which does all the stuff for you.
The other way is to write a little and simple script, which "keeps the
passwordfiles in sync":
#!/bin/sh
# 08-30-2000
# Synchronize the user accounts every night
scp /etc/pass
Hi there,
today I installed samba 3.0.0 rc 3 on redhat 9.
Now I got following problem:
"Illegal multibyte sequence" -> and all processors have a cpu-state of 99,9%
while reading files...
It seems to me that the iconv string does not work properly with my charset
for german.

Hi there,
I built the RPMS for SuSE 8.1 of the new samba-2.2.8. Where can I put these
files?

Hi there,
I've a problem to see the ownership of the folders in a samba share. When I
press the button security in Windows I am not able to see the rights of the
groups every field is blank. When I do the same with files everything's ok.
Any hints???
Is there a way of group mapping in samba-2.2.
