Don't you need winbind on that kind of situation?
Or, if you are using LDAP, maybe an LDAP slave or LDAP

Hmmm... that's strange, maybe you had problems with your

you should check it with 'testparm

Well, for some reason your pam requires that your user has

be sure, and also check Samba last version and development version
for reported bugs or info about Windows 2003.
If you are already using AD, I can't see big problems, but,
we are speaking about "Active Directory". :-)
Kind regards,

d, the group *is* there. :-)
Could you try to check 'net groupmap' man page
section, it perhaps could give you more info (do not forget
about the debuglevel).

What would I use to mount a samba share?
Plain old 'mount -t smbfs'?
mount -t cifs //server/share /mount/point

Hello, I'm running FreeBSD-6.1, and Samba 3.0.22 with a Windows XP (SP2)
client.
As per subject line, administrator doesn't have administrator rights on the
workstation.

Security = share to allow samba to authenticate against the local passwd
files correct?
AFAIK, SAMBA can't authenticate against local /etc/passwd, since SAMBA
needs the LM or NTLM hashes of the password which, of course, are not
stored in /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow. Usually, UNIX passwords are

I used to mount following share using samba client on
RHEL 3.0 without any problems. Then I installed ES4.0
and I started seeing problems with these samba shares.
I have following line in fstab to mount the share :

One further question. Is FC5 a decent platform to do this on, or is
there something better, like say CentOS?
My experiences with FC5 have been mixed case: some components seem to
work pretty well (mostly the server components like Apache, Postfix,
OpenLDAP) while others are a little bit unstable
Hi.
I'm having some trouble when trying to join a SAMBA machine, acting as
a member server, to a NT-style domain server managed by a SAMBA PDC
using an LDAP back-end. Both machines are running samba-3.0.10-1.4E.6
on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.1 Update 3 for AMD64.
When trying to add the member s

Those ports above are already open. I was able to join samba to my windows
domain successfully. However, the machine will not show on Network
Neighborhood. I could not map to the machine as well.
Have you load
You add root and not administrator. This is by design.
When in security = user, think of the username map as
simply an alias file used for authentication requests.
smbpasswd and pdbedit work below that layer.
You were completely right. I was screwed. Adding "root" via smbpasswd

Hi,
I've been Googling around trying to found why I can't make SAMBA
(concretely smbpasswd and pdbedit) make good use of the information
held in the file /etc/samba/smbusers. I have done a clean install of
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 4.1 Update 3 (both x86_64 and IA32) and
Fedora Core 5. In all c
