I thought the 13 character limit was a 'feature' of NT, and thus Samba
reflects that "feature", too... anyone know?

I lately noticed a strange behaviour :

Just a stab in the dark, is there any chance it's an issue with those

What can I do?

smbclient does not currently support MS-DFS. Steve French's
cifs fs for Linux does though.
Is there a version of smbclient that supports traversing MS-DFS links? smbclient
2.0.7 and 2.2.0 both fail when trying to follow MS-DFS redirects.
Thanks.

Hi,
I hope this is the correct mailinglist for my question.
I've made a script that sends a file to a NT shared folder.
As long as I make a successfull connect, I get return status 0...
This is a problem, since now I can't make a correct errorhandling if
something goes wrong.

Hi fellow samba users,
I'm having a problem with smbclient on Red Hat 7.2 transferring files from a

directories, and even copy several files. However, shortly after I start to
transfer lots of files, smbclient just hangs. It w

Hi,
Is this a bug?
By mistake, I was trying to connect to a samba server using
smbclient... but the samba server did not allow my client to
connect to the server, because of a "hosts allow" restriction.
I can understand smbclient reporting the first error:
session request to ALKONOST failed
I am very bad with password questions because I avoid all such things
by using guest ok = yes and guest account = ftp and security = share in
my global smb.conf section.
If you go this route, you might need to change security in each of your
shares, too. Don't know.

I would GUESS this is a problem on the win2k box. I would look at the

whatever off that share (make sure it is shared!)

I got lazy. The full command with gs might look like this:
cat YourPostscriptFile | \
gs -q -sDEVICE=YourPrintingDevice -sOutputFile=- - | \
smbclient //Server/printershare PasswordStuff -c "print -"
quit
The trick is YourPrintingDevice. Look at gs -h for what is available.

You don't need samba to print, just smbclient. That is, you don't need to be
running a samba server.
Since you don't have much time and don't want to mess around with a lot of
stuff, here is the quick and dirty way. Assuming your printer is postscript,
just print your document in postscript format

Samba is running alright with me, smbclient works fine, but I would like to
print from my Linux box over LAN to a printer (HP 560C) connected to a win2k
box.
