Is there anyone managed to get work swat in NetBSD 1.6.It works nicely on older
releases but now i've trouble with Authentication!When i switch in demo mode ..
all is ok!Is this related to PAM?Any hint is welcome!

Why Swat strips all comment lines from the
smb.conf? I couldn't find any field or tab that deals with this, but when I
edited the smb.conf with Swat, my smb.conf became 'nude', so to
speak.

After installing samba 2.2.8 on Red Hat 7.3, swat is not accessable from the samba
server. When i browser with the url http://localhost:901. An error occured while
loading http://localhost:901. Connection to host localhost is broken.
When i type in lsof -i returns:

As far as I know redhat doesn't install swat by default. You may try
`rpm -qa | grep swat` to check if it is installed.
BTW, how can you see that swat isn't running? What's the error message?

Im trying to enable the swat utility so that I can manipulate the
smb.conf file. I have done this on my PowerMac G4 computer, and now Im
trying to set it up on my iBook - but it gives me the following error,
xinetd[pid]: bind failed (address already in use (errno = 48).

I am running a Samba Server on a 7.0 Linux machine.
I am having poor luck in enabling SWAT. As this machine
has no inetd.conf file but instead has a xinetd.conf file.
To this file I have added the line:
swat stream tcp nowait.400 root /usr/sbin/swat swat
Then rebooted the system, restarted samba.

iptables -L | less ?
Try, as root, iptables -P INPUT ACCEPT
This command is only safe if you have this machine behind a firewall or
if it is not connected to the internet.

Just installed samba-3.0.0beta1 and trying to use
swat. When clicked on help on a particular paramenter
(any one), a new window pops up and supposingly it
will load smb.conf.5.html and then jumps to the label
of the parameter. But now it doesn't work.

That is to say, I don't know what "address" is really referring to.

I am using inetd and so can't directly comment on your configuration. What
happens if you try nobody or a real user not root?

to see if there is a file called "swat". If that file is there, then

Just downloaded the new version of samba 2.2.4 and attempted to get swat up
and running.
Put the extra line in /etc/services and an entry in /etc/inetd.conf...
However when I attempt to connect to localhost:901 i get
pam_authenticate: error Authentication failed
Dumped to syslog a bunc
The only docs I found on getting SWAT to run, showed editing the inetd.conf
file. As this version of RH (7.3) only uses xinetd things don't fit exactly.
I have gone through and did everything that one should do for inetd and it
still will not work.

need swat at that time but now I do.
I followed the manpage and modified my inetd.conf
etc, the swat files are in place but SWAT still gives me errors my password is

I have a little problem using SWAT (samba 2.2.7a) in a solaris environment.
Everything works fine but when you try to start the samba-services, nothings
happens. On the other hand, there is no problem to start these services from

The web gui window does not seem to have a logout button.

Sorry to have posted to ask too quickly before reading
through the README in the directory where it has the
clear instructions on how to generate a correct
smb.conf.5.html. Done generating the full
smb.conf.5.html and replaced the one in swat/help
directory fixed the problem.

Pulling up the status page takes forever in swat. When it does come up,
nmbd and smbd are reported as running, but there are no active connections,
shares, files.

you probably don't have swat installed.

I have rather a
perplexing question...
I'm just setting up
a new linux (Redhat 7.2) samba server with authentication using winbind and pam.
Everything seems to be working well on the authentication side except in
Swat.
If I go to the
machine (http://machinename:901) it pops u
When I recompile and install samba
then try to run swat , i get to the user/ password screen , enter root and
password , and hey presto , it fails
if I edit /etc/shadow

The only docs I found on getting SWAT to run, showed editing the inetd.conf
file. As this version of RH (7.3) only uses xinetd things don't fit exactly.
I have gone through and did everything that one should do for inetd and it
still will not work.

Well, once you Choose a share, you can choose advanced view; it does not
come up UNTIL you choose a share...
