Dear all, I was not able to ssh login to a local user from my root. Then i changed the uid and gid of the user using chown -R 530:530 /home/user It worked for me. But now the problem is whenever i login using startx it gives the following error on the desktop of the user: *GConf Error: Failed t

It is possible to recover some of the data if it has not been overwritten, but it won't be easy. Stop using the computer right now to prevent overwriting diskspace previously used by /home. Go to this site and start reading. Basically, you need to boot up from a DVD/CD rescue disk that mounts your
