There is no RFC yet
hat you can drag-and-drop from windows explorer. :-)
and for *nixes, 'sftp' is virtually identical to FTP.

Sorry to pop in on this late in the discussion, but I just now started
digging through my mail. I actually spent several days researching
various methods of secure file transfer a month or so ago, and wound
up deciding on ssl-ftp. Primary decision was because I needed an

In reference to Windows SSH servers, VShell from VanDyke Technologies is
an excellent product. I use it personally and you can tunnel pop, smtp,
ftp and other protocols as well. They are also the makers of SecureCRT
and SecureFX. Check them out and use their products...you won't be
disappointed. h

Hey,
I've been looking into FTP encryption for the last few dayz, I found that
SSH only encrypts the authentication process, but not the transfering of
data. Although SSL, i read that it encrypts not only the authentication, but
also the data. Im not quite sure on what SSL FTP daemons are out ther
If you're just looking for secure transmission,
shouldn't SSH be a decent solution for your ftp needs?
I know nothing about Windows SSH servers, other that
the fact that they exist.
Also, I have been told that encrypted Zip files are
barely worth calling "encrypted." Apparently the

Tunneling ftp through a ssh connection works well. Check out
www.openssh.org, the addon program is called sftp. You would need a unix
box of some sort to do this, but it could be done transparently if the
ftp home dir on the unix box was mounted via samba onto the windows
machine. A IPSEC based VP

Hi all,
I have been tasked with finding and implementing solutions to provide
payroll vendors/401k vendors and health care providers with methods our
company can use to transmit encrypted files via Website (IIS), FTP, and
E-mail (Exchange). We are a total MS shop. I thought of looking to Verisign
