I'd suggest just a simple switch. As the win2k FTP service is inherently insecure, I have never used it, but working primarily with security, I have found the perfect combination is WARFTPD (free) and CuteFTP as the client (or command line works great if no money need be spent).. Hope this helps

Yeah both could be true, and maybe even if someone is portscanning your entire I.P block, which is probably not all owned by you or something. It's not necessary that all ports be scanned, some hackers scan only those ports on which services run which are exploitable by their tools. Like

Hi, If you need a good and secure ftp server, try proftpd (www.proftpd.net). If you need a HTTP server, I recommend you apache (www.apache.org). And yes, I think OpenBSD/FreeBSD are both a good choice as OS (if you can do that, use a machine as HTTP server and use another machine as FTP server).
