I have never had any trouble with any pcmcia network card in linux. All
those programs should run fine under any network card in linux. I would
suggest you check out pcmcia in your kernel and go get pcmcia-cs from
freshmeat and install that so you have all the latest modules for pcmcia
devices. If

You'll need to install a packet capture library. You can get it from
http://netgroup-serv.polito.it/winpcap/ for WINDOWS.
OR
LIBPCAP for LINUX from
http://the.wiretapped.net/security/packet-capture/
You may not have these installed. Every card

I am using a 3com Megahertz which works fine with nmap & ethereal. It is
a 32bit, 100mbit cardbus n
I am lucky, then - 2/0 on my laptop: Xircom Realport 32bit Cardbus w/modem, and
a spare Linksys 10/100 Etherfast w/modem - ran the both on SUSE7.2 - now on
Mandrake8.1. Xircom 32-bit cardbus ones are by far my favorites ...
I guess the question would be: what distro and/or kernel version are you h
I think finding a NIC that can't be put into
promiscuous mode is rare. Be sure you are running
as root, since only they can put the NIC in
this mode.

I've run nmap and nessus on a laptop with a 3com card. FastE 10/100. I
can get you the model number if you want. Haven't tried ethereal
though.

Have you tried a 3com card? Have you checked anything out on nmap, nessus or
ethereal's page concerning laptops/pcmcia ethernet cards?

Hmmm I'm 3/3...
Of newer cards I know the Xircom Cardbus works Model CBEM56G-100.
Of older cards...
I know the Megahertz PCMCIA Model XJ10BT works (X-Jack model).
And 3Com/Megahertz 10/100 PC Card works (sorry no model number in front of
me)
All three of these work in Linux and NT/2000.
