It's true that there's no ideal location for the "distance" parameter. I hadn't thought of defining it in the property itself; I don't think that's a good idea, though, because it's conceivable to have different queries that check for different distances for the same property. Oh, I forgot to answer your question - I don't believe there's any way to change the "5 miles" default for geographical-proximity queries currently. (Though, if you prefer, you can think of it as 8.05 kilometers. :) ) I'm not that concerned about it, since if there's a need for a precise distance,
