It's true that there's no ideal location for the "distance" parameter. I
hadn't thought of defining it in the property itself; I don't think that's a
good idea, though, because it's conceivable to have different queries that
check for different distances for the same property.
And to clarify, the '::~' comparator can only be used for specific
coordinate values, not a string that can be geocoded like "Paris". And to
actually find all points that are, say, "5 km from Paris" is unfortunately
well beyond the current capabilities of SMW. :) It may be something that
Semantic Maps will be able to handle in the not-too-distant future, using
various third-party tools, but probably not through the #ask mechanism.
