/50-15 tires should be fine with this wheel.
I would leave the huge wheels for the ricer crowd, but if you go 5 bolt
the later PT Cruiser and/or SRT4 wheels will work. Some are 16 or 17 inch.

Congrats on getting the axle apart. Heh, funny, I just did this with my 87
Sundance. Went up to 17x6.5" wheels and 205/40's. Bought a set for an Accord.
Looks pretty good and doesn't rub like the 225/50's on the 15x7's I had
previously. I lowered it using Eibach springs with Koni's. Upgrad
I now want to lower my 85 Dodge 600 turbo. I also want to go with a bigger rim
and low profile tires.
My concern is getting the wheel offset right and can I go up to a 17 or 18
inch wheel and still not hit the fenders when I hit a big bump. The 85 600
convertible front fenders are almost straight
