You can remove the starter without removing any axles, if you have equal
length axles. Just take the bolts out of the hanger for the half shaft and
the turbo support brace has to be removed. Then, it will drop down by the
loose half shaft. Been there done that (recently too). Good luck.
I have gotten my starter out in a non-equal length axle car without
removing anything. Just need about 4 extensions and luck at hitting the
top bolt. :)

drill (it is just aluminum and you're only removing the threads in the
bellhousing)
