Loses just mechanical power, or electrical power, too (including headlights)?
My GLHS did the latter when I bought it, and it turned out to be a bad battery
cable.

Its possible the engine is not properly centered. You'll want to be
sure if you pry the engine over that you arent causing it to be uncentered as
you can run into axle problems. Check on the forums for the centering
