Tom, would something out of novell's suse 9.2 beta released last month resolve your problem? read a neat review in techsoup.org today by a 12-yr linux vet who compares Fedora 3.2 v. Suse 9.2. This fellow complained of few KDE "parts" being available for 9.2 like you do about 9.1 but he mentione
