Why complicate life: the visa waiver is three months long and they'll let you
on a second time. The next best thing is the B visa.
Living for under a year you won't be a enough to develop a credit rating which
is just as much of a pain as not getting a social security number.

hmm looks like I am gonna get a nasty surprise... The SS office was
adament I needed to get my wife's EAD before I could get her SSN! Also the
lawyers who filed her EAD didnt actually ask for an SSN as well. Oh I am
applying on an E3 visa btw, if that makes a difference.

IIRC you also need to redo the EAD process each time the E-3 gets
renewed. Most of the people I know on an EAD gave up in the end and
became people of leisure.
