If that's measured with Dist 1 PPM meter, it's OK It's impure enough to get the reaction started fairly fast and not so impure as to cause contamination problems. I actually prefer DW that reads 1 PPM over the more pure water. Extremely pure water does not pull enough current to prevent fluffy

It is not a strong solution, 1% or so if I remember right. Silver Nitrate will not cause black staining unless either exposed to bright light, or a developer is present. Apparently the lack of bright light and a developer prevents the silver nitrate from blinding due to reduction. Marshall
